Épée · One-Touch Elimination

Fencing

Steel ringing in the arena.

Round-robin épée bouts — one touch, 60 seconds, no second chances. Athletes accumulate ranking points before entering direct elimination where a single hit ends the match.

From 2025, the bonus round is replaced by direct elimination seeded from round-robin results. Tactical mastery over raw aggression.

200m Freestyle · Seeded Heats

Swimming

Chlorine blue, stopwatch red.

A 200-metre freestyle race where athletes are seeded into heats based on qualifying times. Every tenth of a second translates directly into pentathlon points that carry into the afternoon.

Swimmers who dominate the pool carry a time advantage into the laser run — the discipline rewards those who trained in the 5am lane.

70m · 8 Obstacles · Head-to-Head

Obstacle Course

Power through every barrier.

The newest Olympic discipline: a 70-metre head-to-head race through eight obstacles. Six are fixed each season — two are drawn at random per event, keeping athletes and coaches guessing until race day.

Replacing equestrian show jumping from 2025, obstacle racing brings raw athleticism and unpredictability. Courses run indoors and out.

Precision Shooting · 10m Target

Laser Pistol

Breath held. Trigger pulled.

Athletes shoot laser pistols at electronic targets from 10 metres. Five centre hits required before you can move — control your heart rate after the obstacle course, or lose ground to the field.

The mental discipline of laser run shooting is where championships are won and lost. Heart rate spikes from running must be controlled in seconds.

Pursuit Race · Running + Shooting

Laser Run

First across the line wins gold.

The finale. A pursuit race combining 300–600m running laps with laser pistol shooting stations. Athletes start with a handicap based on cumulative points — the first to cross the finish line is champion.

One-second handicap per pentathlon point behind the leader. Every decision across four disciplines determines when you step onto the starting line.
